North Korea insisted early on Monday that its call for denuclearisation had nothing to do with pressure from the United States.

Monday's news, however, was dominated by the swearing in of Vladimir Putin as Russian president, for an unprecedented fourth term.

And there was a disappointment in Egypt, where, after years of study and investigation, Italian researchers said there's no secret chamber beyond Tutankhamun's tomb. They had been hoping that such a secret chamber would be Queen Nefertiti's final rest place
