Getting arrested on your birthday is enough to sour even the most positive of days. 

But a man in Oklahoma, USA turned what would be most people's worst nightmare into one for the photo album, by getting down on one knee and proposing to his girlfriend...all while in handcuffs. 

The bizarre incident was recorded by body cams on police officers who had gone to Mr Thomas' Muskogee residence to arrest him on six felony charges. 

Mr Thomas willingly complied as police handcuffed him, before asking the officers to give him some space for his special moment. 

"When the other officer told me he was gonna propose I think my initial response was, are you kidding me?" officer Lincoln Anderson told News On 6. 

Officers agreed, and Mr Thomas went on to pop the question. 

His fiancee Leandria Keith said yes. 

"There's all kinds of situations out here, everybody makes choices every day. I love him. I'm ready to spend the rest of my life with him," she said.
