Approximately 10 million people around the world live with Parkinson's, with around 1,400 of them living in Malta.

On Wednesday, Parkinson’s organisations and supporters around the world come together to share their experiences of living with this incurable condition, as they mark World Parkinson's Day.

Parkinson's disease is a progressive disorder of the nervous system that affects movement. It develops gradually, and although it cannot be cured, medication can significantly improve symptoms.

It was first described by an English doctor, James Parkinson, in 1817.

To mark World Parkinson's Day, the Malta Parkinson's Disease Association has joined forces with organisations in 150 other countries and is spearheading a local #uniteforparkinsons campaign, to help raise awareness of the condition.

The MPDA provides support and advice for people with Parkinson’s and their loved ones.
