Minister Konrad Mizzi today claimed that the Panama company he opened up two years ago was under liquidation.

Asked by Times of Malta for details and more evidence about the liquidation process, Dr Mizzi said it was not in his hands.

In February 2016, Dr Mizzi had promised “full disclosure” on the dissolution process.

Asked when the company would finally be closed, Dr Mizzi said he had nothing more to add.

Questioned if the Prime Minister's chief of staff Keith Schembri should reply to another summons to appear before the European Parliament's Pana committee, Dr Mizzi said Mr Schembri was not an elected official, and he had already explained himself.

Dr Mizzi again repeated his assertion that he had answered all questions about the Panama scandal, and had always been consistent in his statements.

Both Dr Mizzi and Mr Schembri opened up identical companies structured in Panama and New Zealand.

Pana chairman Werner Langen said during a visit to Malta in February that Dr Mizzi’s financial set up looked like money laundering.

Mr Schembri snubbed an invitation to appear before the committee during the February fact-finding mission.

Mr Langen yesterday reacted with indignation after government spokesman Kurt Farrugia said his request for Keith Schembri to appear before the committee next month made him part of a PN campaign to divert attention.

Mr Langen said the Pana committee had agreed unanimously to summon Mr Schembri last February.

Leaked e-mails show that Dr Mizzi's and Mr Schembri’s financial advisers Nexia BT gave the go-ahead to open up accounts in Panama that would have required annual deposits of close to $1 million.

Dr Mizzi has dodged multiple questions about where this money was going to come from.
