The Maltese are traditionally split right down the middle between the Labour and Nationalist camps.
And the trend appears to have been exported to the US, where the Maltese migrants appear to be split between voting for Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton.
Josie Attard, originally from Cospicua, was categoric about her choice: “I will vote for Trump because he’s got a big mouth like me.”
“Malta has Marie-Louise Coleiro and I think the US deserves a woman president,” said Ganni Bajada, who has been living in the US for 36 years.
The vox pop was carried out over the weekend during President Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca's visit to the Maltese community in Astoria, New York.
Trump and Clinton go head-to-head this evening in the first televised debate between the two ahead of the November election.
