Ħamrun Spartans produced a comeback to floor a timid Birkirkara side.
The issue was resolved in the second period after Ħamrun took their opponents by storm to leave the Stripes in disarray.
Carlos Chavarria gave Birkirkara the lead when he scored a goal out of nothing as he pounced on loose ball and whacked in a low shot behind Emanuel Bartolo blocked Michael Mifsud’s initial effort.
Ħamrun needed a goal to whip up their drained spirit. They got it when Moukanza’s floating ball to Caetano Calil had the latter side-stepping the ball into the back of the net after 35 minutes.
Ħamrun went on the rampage after the break and it was a fortuitous blocking save from Kristijan Naumovski which denied the Spartans the lead.
Mounkanza produced some neat skills to go past a defender before setting up Domoraud who was thwarted by the Macedonian goalkeeper.
The Spartans sensed they could topple their opponents by now and maintained the pressure.
Calil crowned a remarkable evening with the goal which deserved to be the winner all the way. The Brazilian received a ball from 30 metres out and masterfully executed a swerving shot which left Naumovski stranded.
