Capital projects Wasteserv was involved in were usually complex and involved work which would be new for the country so substantial attention was needed for these to be managed in the best possible way, the company said in a statement.

Wasteserv was referring to the National Audit report which revealed long delays and substantial cost variations on capital projects.

The Audit Report said that lack of transparency and non-compliance with procurement regulations were also noted, especially regarding sub-contracted labour.

It said “the inadequacy of the overall internal controls is a major concern”.

WasteServ said that projects financed by the EU had already been successfully audited by the European audit systems.

WasteServ said it was dependent on getting services against a tender which was a tough process in itself and required regular controls. Wasteserv officials insisted on more exigent controls and improvements were noted by the company’s auditors.

Directors also insisted on the implementation of managing and certification systems, so much so that WasteServ had embarked on procedures to introduce systems of better management such as the ISO 9000 the company was working to obtain in the coming months.
