Four thieves who made off with a considerable amount of gold jewellery from a shop in Victoria, Gozo, on August 26 left Malta a day later, the police have said.

The police have now requested an international arrest warrant for the two men and two women so they can be returned to Malta, saying the Romanians arrived in Gozo on August 25 and left the island by boat. They spent the night in Malta and departed a day later, with two heading to Italy and the other two to Turkey.

In CCTV footage, one of the couples is seen distracting the shop assistant while the other two help themselves to jewellery from the safe and other showcases. One of the men is seen twice stealing items from the showcase.
