I would like to trace some people whom I met when I was a child living in Malta.

My memories are of course fairly sketchy, but I do remember a lot of kindness and the sense of being minded by a community which embraced me and my family during our sojourn.

I lived in Malta for about two-and-a-half years with my parents, Joan and Philip, my sisters, Carole and Susan (who was born in Malta on November 11, 1952) from 1951-1953.

We lived in a house called St Clements in Żejtun for some of that time. There was a family, Mr and Mrs Desira, who lived in the flat below us and whose father died tragically while riding his bicycle, and there was also another very nice couple, Mr and Mrs Salvo Camilleri, who ran a local shop on the street and I have it on record from my mother that "Mrs Camilleri spoilt me rather a lot".

Towards the end of our stay I attended a local convent-run primary school.

I will be visiting Malta in late September with my wife Catherine (I have my flight and accommodation booked already) and would be very pleased to hear from anyone who may have known my family during our previous stay.

I can be contacted by e-mail on jamesmaidment@eircom.net
