Wardens were not doing their job well, the Valletta council said, as it expressed disappointment with their service.

In a statement, the council said that although it was continuously informing the agency responsible about a number of irregularities, the necessary action was not being taken.

Contractors, it said, were constantly blocking roads and posing a danger to the public.

A large number of shops were also creating an inconvenience by taking out tables and chairs in the streets without a permit, while waste was being thrown away illegally and at irregular hours.

There was also continuous abuse in the organisation of traffic, with cars parked haphazardly.

This situation, the council said, was creating an inconvenience to residents and visitors.

The council appealed to the responsible authority to make the necessary effort for these problems to be solved.

It said it was willing to collaborate in the interest of the locality.
