Sliema Wanderers made it a perfect week as they edged past Vittoriosa Stars 2-1 at the National Stadium this afternoon.

Both teams struggled to make an impact in the first half as they failed to muster the windy conditions at the National Stadium.But after the interval, the Wanderers stepped up their game and they took the lead after 53 minutes.

Admar Vladavic’s shot was deflected into the path of Mathias Muchardi who hit a low drive that rolled past Vittoriosa goalkeeper Sean Cini.But the Stars hit back and they managed to draw level on 57 minutes. Mitogo Garcia burst clear on the right before squaring the ball towards the unmarked Marcelo Pereira who stabbed the ball home.

The Blues were stunned by they soon regrouped and regained the lead two minutes later.Vladavic’s throughball released Trevor Cilia who cooly slotted the ball past the onrushing Cini.

Vittoriosa could have save a point when they were awarded a penalty on 77 minutes when Stefano Bianciardi upended Pereira inside the area. But from the spot Oscar Guerrero blasted the ball over the bar.

Sliema Wanderers winger Trevor Cilia was voted as the BOV Player of the match.
