SK Victoria Wanderers 3

Qala St Joseph 1
Nkwankwo 10

SK Victoria Wanderers made it a double over Qala St Joseph in the GFA Division One this season following a keenly-contested match between two teams fighting for different objectives.

In the end, it was the Wanderers who reached their goal as they beat the relegation-threatened Qala 3-1 to join Sannat Lions at the top with 18 points. The Lions have a game in hand.

The Wanderers produced the better fare, hitting back strongly after going a goal down in the early stages. Not for the first time this season, Victoria were inspired by Ige Adesina who capped an excellent performance with a well-taken brace.

The Saints were determined not to finish empty-handed from this match to move away from the drop zone. They had Ivo Ginev (ex-Nadur) making his debut while Dione Lautier (ex-Oratory) returned for the Maroons.

Eric Nkwankwo put Qala in front after 10 minutes but the Wanderers turned the tide in their favour with two Adesina goals.

Qala tried hard to restore parity but six minutes from half-time, Victoria increased their lead with an Ajibade Adesina goal.

After the break, the Saints applied some pressure on their opponents but their best chance to pull one back came from a goalmouth scramble following an inswinging Charles Hili centre with the ball hitting the post. Late on, an attempt by Nkwankwo was saved in style by SK Victoria goalkeeper Mercieca.

At the other end, Victoria might have added to their tally but a shot by Ige Adesina came off the Qala woodwork.
