Sliema Wanderers were back to winning ways when they had the better of trouble Birkirkara at the Centenary Stadium.

Sliema made a bright start and on eight minutes Jefferson broke through the left flank and his cross was inadvertently flicked by Mislav Andelkovic towards his own goal but goalkeeper Philip Schranz was alert to tip over.

Birkirkara thought they had taken the lead on 18 minutes when Goncalves picked Luke Montebello at the far post and the towering striker headed past Glenn Zammit. However, the ‘goal’ was annulled as Montebello was in an offside position.

Sliema found the breakhthrough on 45 minutes when Matthias Muchardi was first to Edmond Agiusdelivery and the Argentine fired the ball past Schranz.

The Wanderers doubled their lead on 57 minutes when Jefferson broke through from the right and picked Frenci Qeros who released the unmarked Gabriel Aquilina who despatched the ball past Schranz.

Sliema add a third goal 11 minutes from time when in another swift break Jefferson was upened in the area by Schraz with referee Philip Farrugia pointing to the spot.

The Brazilian picked himself up to blast the ball into the roof of the net.

Sliema midfielder Matthias Muchardi was voted as the BOV Player of the match.
