No one was injured when the wall of a building under construction fell onto two shops in Bisazza Street this morning, causing the roof of Affinities Beauty Salon to cave in as a result.

The police said that the accident happened just after 6.15 a.m., when the wall was brought down with a gust of wind.

Construction workers discovered the fallen wall when they arrived on site to start the day's work. They informed the authorities and Affinities' Insurance Company eventually informed the owner of the damage.

The owner said she had been constantly complaining about the works with the Occupational Health and Safety Authority because of the constant passing bricks and cement over the shop.

The authority said in a statement this afternoon that there was no law which prevented material from being carried above the property of third persons, as long as this was done safely and without risk for those underneath.

After it had received the complaints, the authority had stopped the works to ensure that material was carried safely and its officials visited the place at least three times to ensure that everything was being done in order.

The collapse of the wall, the authority noted, had nothing to do with the material being carried.
