A walk in aid of Dar tal-Providenza, Siġġiewi, was launched by the Parliamentary Secretary for Local Government, Chris Said, yesterday.

Imxi għad-Dar tal-Providenza would not only serve to raise awareness about healthy living but would also "help an institution that gives a big contribution to society every day", he said.

The five-kilometre walk, organised by the Siġġiewi local council, will take place on May 23 at 9 a.m., starting from San Nikola Square.

Karol Aquilina, the deputy mayor, urged participants to donate €5 to Dar tal-Providenza.

Dr Said added that although many local councils were organising sports activities, the one at Siġġiewi was tying its activity to a good cause.Dar tal-Providenza's expenses run up to about €13,000 a day.

Fr Martin Micallef, the director of the homes for the handicapped, praised the Siġġiewi council for its initiative and said Mass would be held at the home after the walk.
