E.R.R.C. lifeguards assisted seven swimmers in 30 minutes at the Blue Lagoon in Comino this afternoon.

The volunteer group said the first rescue took place at 5.30 p.m. when the lifeguards assisted a person in difficulty and brought him to shore.Other people needed assistance in quick succession, mostly due to being surprised by  strong rip currents. The Lifeguards on duty were Marthiana Vella – team leader, Jahel Muscat and Chantelle Mercieca

None of the casualties assisted needed further help.

The E.R.R.C urged people to avoid swimming in the Blue Lagoon when the red flags are flying.

The Lifeguarding service at Blue lagoon is being run on a daily basis till the end of September. The service is supported by the Ministry for Gozo, the Malta Tourism Authority, Transport Malta and the Civil Protection Department.
