Singers will be taking to the stage tonight to help volunteers raise funds for cancer patients as part of a 60-hour football marathon.

Jugglers, face painters, clowns and famous cartoon characters will be entertaining children throughout the day at the Marsa Sports Grounds.

Puttinu Cares had raised more than €80,000 until late yesterday afternoon. The organisation, which helps parents of cancer patients make ends meet when they have to travel abroad for treatment, hopes to extend its premises in Sutton through the funds raised.

The organisation has already bought three apartments in the area, but had to rent another six to meet the demand of people needing help.

This is the sixth marathon organised by the organisation, and 800 teams are taking each other on.

The marathon comes to an end at 10 p.m.
