The worst were Denmark, Ireland, Cyprus and Luxembourg, which produced more than 750 kg of waste per person.

Malta was in the same group as Luxembourg and the Netherlands, who in 2007 produced between 600 and 750 kg of waste per person. The lowest values, below 400kg per person, were recorded in Romania, Latvia, Poland, Slovakia and the Czech Republic.

Germany, Belgium and Sweden recycled the highest percentage of their waste at between 46% and 37%.

Composting was most common in Austria (38%) while Bulgaria, Romania and Lithuania landfilled a higher percentage of their waste than Malta did. 93% of Malta's waste went to landfills in 2007.
