Vodafone Malta today promised to deliver the highest mobile internet speed across the Maltese islands as it announced that a €50m investment announced last year was being increased by a  further €5m.

The company’s Chief Executive Officer, Balesh Sharma said Vodafone was rolling out a 42Mbps capability across key areas and high traffic sites as of today. Current capability across the islands is of 21.6 Mbps. This, he said, was the latest evolution of 3G data capabilities across Vodafone's broadband network to enable customers to enjoy the latest devices. This upgrade, he said, made local speeds among the best in the world, ensuring that Malta  continued to enjoy cutting edge telecoms technologies to drive the country's digital agenda.

Communications Minister Austin Gatt  described the launch into a new technological era as “exciting times”.

“These types of investments have put Malta at the forefront of communications, and encouraged investors to move to Malta.

“This is not just about speed and numbers. It’s about the economic health of a country. This investment will create new jobs, and make Malta more attractive for tourists” Dr Gatt said.
