Vodafone has introduced data roaming spend limits and spend notifications to help customers cap their expenditure when accessing e-mail or internet while abroad.

Now a default service, Vodafone's data roaming notifications works on a total spend of €50 per calendar month. The data session stops automatically when the limit is reached. Vodafone sends alerts to subscribers before the spending cap is reached and another when the limit is taken up.

The limit can be extended by calling 247 or by sending a free SMS to 5091 5700 either from a mobile phone if one is using mobile internet, or from the Vodafone Mobile Broadband dashboard with the Vodafone internet key. The SMS must include the new limit, rounded to the nearest euro. The default limit will be reset at the end of the calendar month.

The default spend cap can also be permanently changed, to be either higher or lower than the default limit value.

Vodafone recently slashed data roaming rates by up to 50 per cent.
