Casa Leone XIII residents are benefiting from an improved level of security and care with the provision of a new nurse call alarm system, purchased recently with the help of the Vodafone Malta Foundation, which donated €16,900.

Josephine Mercieca, administrator at Casa Leone, said the new system has made an incredible difference not only to the quality of care given to the elderly residents, but also to the level of security and safety.

"Residents now have an easily accessible and reliable way to call for assistance. They feel so much more at peace because they need only push a button that is readily available and help arrives right away.

"Those responsible for their care are also happy to know that if someone responds to a call for assistance and finds more help is needed, the caregiver is able to easily summon her colleague without leaving the resident alone. The alert can only be turned off from the resident's bed side," Ms Mercieca explained.

Foundation chairman Gemma Mifsud Bonnici said the foundation was proud to be instrumental towards such a humane cause.
