Vodafone Malta said today it has topped up the credit of 208 customers in Libya to help them out amid the unrest in the North African country.

Shooting was reported this morning in parts of the capital, Tripoli, while the second city of Benghazi reportedly fell into the hands of protesters, who armed themselves by raising army depots.

Fierce fighting was reported in other parts of Libya, with Sayf Gaddafi, the Libyan leader's son, saying the fight would be continued 'to the last bullet'. (see separate story)

Meanwhile the EU is reportedly drafting plans to evacuate Europeans, if necessary.

Austria yesterday sent a military aircraft to Malta to be easily available to fly Austrians and other Europeans out of Libya, if required.
