Vittoriosafest, a family event spread over three days at the Vittoriosa Marina, kicks off tomorrow at 8 p.m. after a break of three years.

The event leads to the feast of St Lawrence in the locality. The festivities start on Friday and reach their climax on August 10, the feast day proper.

A spokesman for the promoters said there would be events both for children and for adults. There will also be a large selection of Maltese traditional food.

The highlight of each evening of Vittoriosafest will be the performances on the main stage by a long list of Maltese entertainers.

The spokesman for the promoters said that in order to ease parking problems, a boat service will be offered from Senglea to Vittoriosa.

Entrance to the activities is free.

The promoters of Vittoriosafest will also be holding a fireworks display titled La Notte Di San Lorenzo on August 9 at 9.45 p.m. near the Vittoriosa Regatta Club at Kalkara Creek.

The spokesman said this event was very popular in Italy due to the famous shooting stars that are associated with St Lawrence's martyrdom, which according to history took place on the night of August 9 in the year 258 in Rome.

The fireworks would not only be synchronised to music but also to a stage show with the participation of dance companies, the spokesman said.

The Stella Maris Band of Sliema will be in attendance.

Those attending the event are urged to reach the venue through Kalkara main gate and then via the first turning on their left.

Both events are organised by the 10th August Pyrotechnic Group and the St Lawrence External Festivities Committee on the occasion of the St Lawrence feast 2009.
