What a betrayal! It seems as if we are going to end up with a hole in the wall and one in the ground to replace the beautiful opera house and the old baroque gate, which made the entrance to Valletta the breathtaking experience it once was.

As if that were not enough, our politicians are looking after themselves by requisitioning Freedom Square to build a House of Parliament (for 65 members), which no one ever asked for. Why not stay where they are or take over the Boffa Hospital area for their activities?

And what a job driving to Valletta is going to be - already bad enough, what with the Palace Square and Freedom Square gone, blue lines, green lines, yellow lines everywhere, not to mention the bisection of Valletta, caused by the removal of the road above the gate.

Furthermore, why not construct multi-tiered underground car parks beneath Freedom Square, thus solving what is now a perpetual parking problem when going to the city.

All in all, it looks as if Valletta will, in future, be repelling and not welcoming the visitors it so desires.
