It is beyond me why some people get hot under the collar because of visiting warships.

Since time immemorial Grand Harbour played host to navies of different nationalities. We had the Roman galleys, the ones of the Order of St John, the French and British warships.

What is wrong with naval visits from friendly countries? Is it not democratic for a free, neutral country to have both warships and cruise liners together at Malta GC?

Our fathers and veterans are the first to venture to the upper and lower barrakkas to watch these ships enter or leave port each time these appear on the horizon.

Why is it that so many visit these vessels when these are open to the public?

Why do so many flock to the airport when air displays are held?

"Mine-sweepers, destroyers, guided-missile cruisers, frigates, is Malta at war?"

What rubbish! Military hardware has always fascinated mankind and we are no exception.
