Joseph Zammit Tabona has been appointed non-executive chairman of Viset Malta plc with effect from July 2.

He succeeds Joseph Grioli.

Mr Zammit Tabona will assume the chairmanship of the company with particular responsibility for board matters and corporate governance. He brings to his new role extensive experience. His active involvement in both the public and private sectors in recent years have enabled him to develop a deeper understanding of the needs of all sectors of local industry, the company said. In January 2006, he was appointed by the government as chairman of the Malta Stock Exchange and chairman of FinanceMalta in May 2007. He is also chairman of the Malta Accountancy Board.

In 2002, he was appointed executive director of the Malta Enterprise board. Earlier, he had been named chairman of the Malta Development Corporation, the Malta External Trade Corporation and the Institute for the Promotion of Small Enterprise.

Mr Zammit Tabona served as chairman of Malta Enterprise Corporation between August 2003 and January 2006. He also served as president of the Malta Federation of Industry between 1990 and 1992 and, between 2000 and 2003, and represented the FOI on the Malta Council for Economic and Social Development, the Malta External Trade Corporation, the Malta Development Corporation and the Institute for the Promotion of Small Enterprise.
