The foreign ministers of Libya, Malta and Italy - Mousa Kousa, Tonio Borg and Franco Frattini, respectively, may meet in Rome tomorrow to discuss the current impasse over Libya's refusal to issue visas to travellers from Schengen area countries, Italian newspaper La Repubblica reported.

Quoting diplomatic sources, the newspaper said the meeting would be held at Villa Madama in Rome.

A spokesman for the Maltese Foreign Ministry said there was a possibility that Dr Borg may meet ministers from neighbouring countries over the issue.

Meanwhile, following a request made this morning by Dr Borg, the EU Council of Ministers for Foreign Affairs is expected to give priority to this dispute when it holds its meeting on Monday.
