The Mdina Grand Prix 2014 stepped up a gear today when vintage cars took part in a hillclimb in Mellieha.

The contest, which continues until 4 p.m., is being held under perfect weather on the by-pass between Ghadira and Mellieha. Fifty cars were entered for the event.

The Grand Prix started with scrutineering last Sunday.

The Concours d’Elegance will be held tomorrow, when engine power is replaced by glamour in the popular event at Mdina square from 11am.

The real business starts on Saturday at 9am with practice and qualifying sprint runs on the road circuit between Mdina, Mtarfa and Rabat. The paddock area below Mtarfa will be open to the public between 4-5p.m.

The races take place on Sunday between 9am and 4p.m.
