The director general of the Chamber for Small and Medium Enterprises – GRTU was this morning in court confronted by SMSs he had sent or received following an alleged attack by a former colleague last year.

When the criminal case against Sandro Chetcuti, a 38-year-old former GRTU council member charged with Vince Farrugia's attempted murder at his office in March 2010 continued today, defence lawyer Emmanuel Mallia confronted Mr Farrugia with a number of SMSs.

In one, which he had sent to his son Jean Carl, who is also his lawyer in the case, Mr Farrugia wrote:

"I think din tac-certifikati hallejna wisq f'idejhom. You should get advise from Konrad and Anthony Samuel tonight. Jekk jixhdu soft johorgu l-pulizija u lilna ta' hmir. Xi hadd irid jghid li any blow could have killed me."

Mr Farrugia said that he had sent that SMS because he preferred one of the medics to go straight to the point.

He said he wanted to make sure that his lawyer would bring out the fact that the treatment he, a man of 65, had received, could have resulted in his death.

Mr Farrugia was also confronted with another SMS sent to him by St Julian's mayor Peter Bonello. Mr Farrugia had forwarded this SMS to his son.

"Vinc, hu hsieb li jkollok professor bil-b(...) ghax dan il-quddiem irid jixhed mhux jibza min dellu. Peter. Kuragg ahna warajk."

Earlier court appointed expert Consultant Malcolm Crockford was asked if he knew Vince Farrugia and if he spoken to him after the alleged incident.

He said he did not speak to him after the incident but he could have spoken to him before since he had been a doctor for many years.

The case continues.
