The Court this morning upheld a request by the defence counsels of Sandro Chetcuti, and stopped consultant radiologist Anthony Samuel from re-testifying.

Sandro Chetcuti, 38, a former GRTU council member, is pleading not guilty to a charge of attempted murder of Vince Farrugia at his office in March 2010.

Dr Samuel took the witness stand when the case continued this morning, but defense lawyers Edward Gatt and Emmanuel Mallia objected, saying that during the last sitting, the court had decreed that Dr Samuel would not testify.

The court had then appointed radiologist Malcolm Crockford to examine conflicting reports which had been drawn up by Dr Samuel and court-appointed forensic pathologist Mario Scerri, including the results of any tests, and to report back to the court.

Dr Gatt and Dr Mallia argued that if Dr Samuel wanted to add anything to his testimony, he should do this once Mr Crockford presented his report.
