The Malta Hotels and Restaurants Association has praised the government’s recent aid package of €250,000 granted to local councils to organise events promoting their particular characteristics.

The scheme, which aims to encourage tourists to experience what towns and villages have to offer, would help the councils promote their unique traits, the MHRA said.

Villages were increasingly becoming more important and could use the funds to organise activities to showcase their attractions, the association said in a statement.

The aid package would support ongoing efforts by the Malta Tourism Authority and other stakeholders to cover the shoulder months, it added.

“Such activities will continue to enhance our product offer and strengthen the cultural image of our islands,” it said.
