A fight at a village feast landed a 19-year-old man in court after he attacked two police officers who intervened.
Italian national Antonino Enrico Galvagno was involved in an argument with a group of men at about 3 a.m. on Wed-nesday in Naxxar. This escal-ated when he attacked two officers, slightly injuring one of them, Police Inspector Elton Taliana, prosecuting, said yesterday.
Mr Calvagno, who lives in Mosta, informed the court he did not have or wanted a lawyer and would plead guilty to the charges of resisting the police and slightly injuring the officer.
The prosecuting officer told the court the teenager needed to understand the consequences of his actions and the gravity of the charges brought against him. The role of the police was to maintain order and in this case they ended up being injured themselves.
He said Mr Calvagno was drunk. This was no excuse, however, the accused apologised after he realised what had happened.
Magistrate Gabriella Vella handed down a one-year jail term suspended for two and fined Mr Calvagno €23.
