Villa Madama in Attard has been sold at auction to Lombard Bank for €990,000.

The auction was ordered by the Civil Court after a case instituted against the owners, Venues Company Ltd, which used the centuries-old house near San Anton gardens as a weddings hall.

The sale was conducted yesterday by Pierre Grech Pillow.

Villa Madama was originally built as a country residence for Grandmaster Antoine de Paule and his friends, who included Caterine Valente – the lady after whom the villa was named.
