The 2017 Chilean film A Fantastic Woman will be screened at St James Cavalier Cinema, Valletta, this afternoon.

Despite a 30-year age difference, Marina, a trans woman and an aspiring singer who works as a bar waitress, and Orlando, a divorced man who works at a printing press, share an intimate and touching relationship.

When Orlando falls tragically ill, the couple is torn apart by social pressures. Due to her gender identity, Marina is treated with suspicion by Orlando’s ex-wife, his son and the authorities, who suspect foul play.

A Fantastic Woman, directed by Sebastián Lelio, explores the trials and tribulations of Marina, who stands tall in the face of discrimination, struggling to be herself in a world that views difference as an aberration.
