The Wiener Solisten Quartet will give a recital on Friday at the mediaeval church of Sta Marija of Bir Miftuħ.

The Austrian quartet consists of Wolfgang Gollner and Victor Adrian Roman, violins; Endre Guran, viola; and Klaus Steinberger, cello.

The recital will transport the audience through four centuries, with highlights of great works by Bach, Pachelbel, Mozart, Haydn, Schubert, Dvorak, Lanner and Scott Joplin.

Organised by Din l-Art Ħelwa, the concert has been made possible through the assistance of the Malta International Airport.

Mr Göllner studied at the Wiener Musikhochschule and graduated from the Royal College of Music London. He has performed in prestigious concert halls all over Austria and has given prominent recitals as a soloist worldwide.

Mr Roman is a member of the famous Haydn Quartet Eisenstadt and played with them in most of the European countries, in the US (Carnegie Hall New York), in Russia, several Asian countries and Mexico.

Swiss-born Ms Guran has performed widely as a soloist and chamber musician and has lectured at the Conservatoires in Zurich, Heidelberg-Mannheim and Lucerne.

Mr Steinberger is director of the school of music in Kindberg, Austria and has lectured in Graz and Vienna.
