Inspectors from the Government Property Division this morning removed iron beams and other items belonging to a contractor which were illegally stored in a large field near Naxxar.

A spokesman for the division said that the action was taken after a warrant for prohibitory injunction filed by the contractor who contested title, was turned down by a court.

The spokesman said the field, belonging to the government, had been closed off by the contractor, who had used it to park heavy vehicles and store equipment. The heavy vehicles were removed by the contractor over the weekend.

The items were removed by a contractor engaged by the division. Parliamentary Secretary Jason Azzopardi told Parliament last week that the division is in the process of procuring its own equipment in order to step up enforcement action.
