Tenor Joseph Calleja delighted a Parisian crowd and many dignitaries in a concert held at the Cathédral Saint-Louis des Invalides in Paris yesterday.

The concert was hosted by the Maltese embassy and coincided with Prime Minister Joseph Muscat's official visit to the French capital.

Titled Joseph Calleja: La Grande Voix De Malte, the concert involved the participation of France’s best orchestra, the Orchestre de la Garde Républicaine, under the baton of Colonel Francois Boulanger.

Calleja enchanted the audience of some 650 guests - including Prime Minister Muscat, Ambassador Pierre Clive Agius and 200 Maltese with a one-hour programme that included popular French and Italian arias. It  ended with a standing ovation for Calleja and an encore of Puccini's Tosca: E Lucevan Le Stelle.

Dr Muscat is due to meet President Francois Hollande late this afternoon.
