Activities to mark Victory Day continued this morning when President George Abela laid a wreath on the Great Siege Monument in Valletta and Archbishop Paul Cremona celebrated pontifical Mass at St John's Co-Cathedral. (see separate story on Mgr Cremona's homily).

The day's events started when the AFM Band and a Guard of Honour marched down Republic Street and formed up opposite the Co-Cathedral where they accorded salutes to Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi and President Abela.

The President then inspected the Guard of Honour before leading the congregation for Mass. Also present were the Bench of Judges, the Speaker, ministers and parliamentary secretaries, and Owen Bonnici MP representing the Leader of the Opposition.

The traditional regatta will be held in Grand Harbour this afternoon.
