Pirates 8
VIS Knights 2

League leaders Pirates continued on their winning ways this week with a lopsided victory over the winless VIS Knights.

At the break the score was still 3-2 after a balanced first half. The game turned sour for the Knights early after the restart when Kenny and Alex Attard began to show their true mettle. The two 'Pirates' combined for seven of the eight goals scored by their team.

This win pushes the Pirates further atop the MIHL standings with six points. Dave Westwood and Robert Holtet scored for the VIS Knights, who are still looking to record their first point and will face the McDonalds Flyers on Monday at 7.30 p.m.

The FTW Leafs, headed by captain Chris Gatt, showed that they could unleash a fury of goals if given the opportunity. Gatt potted three and added three other assists while Latvian Oskars Olsevskis banged in four goals to lead the Leafs past the Flyers, the latter still playing without their captain and standout defenceman John Correia.

The contest was a shootout from the start, with the Leafs taking the lead and never looking back. Janis Kalnins finished the night with five points for the Leafs and winger Gord Attard collected four.

Although outscored 12-7, the Flyers pressed their opponents to the final buzzer and had many opportunities to close the gap. Gozitan Steve Ellis and Swede Simon Vacklen added four points for the winners.

The Leafs will now face the Pirates on Monday and hope to avenge an 8-1 loss suffered on October 14 at the hands of Chircop and the Attard brothers. A win would put the Leafs into a share of first place with the Pirates.
