The road leading from Rabat to San Lawrenz in Gozo, which was supposed to have been completed five years ago, is still not complete. It was originally budgeted to cost €4,781,116 but to date is estimated to have cost €8,782,161.

Answering Chris Said (PN), Gozo Minister Anton Refalo said that only €5,405,750 had been paid to date for the work completed, or three quarters of the project.

All EU funds for the project had been spent, and €3,470,000 would have to be borne by the taxpayer.

Dr Refalo said the allocation of funds for road construction in Gozo under the previous Government amounted to just €1.25 million. At this rate the San Lawrenz road would take up to 2015 to be paid for.

Bearing all this in mind, it was difficult to say when work on the Sannat road would be started on.
