A re-enactment of the 210th anniversary of the French surrender in Gozo was held in Victoria recently. The event was spread over two days.

On the first day the public could see soldiers training, readying and cleaning their firearms, making cartridges and cooking. Scottish Highland pipers and French drummers and fifers added to the atmosphere by playing military and folk music.

The following day, there was a full battle in Victoria, where the French finally surrendered. More than 150 Maltese, British, Czech, Italian, Russian, German, Dutch, Norwegian and Swedish actors took part in the 'invasion' of Victoria and the Citadel. The event was held on the initiative of the Victoria council in collaboration with the Historical Re-enactment Group of Malta.
