A man who was stabbed and slashed five times in Attard in 2008 said this afternoon that he still did not know the reason for the attack.

Carmelo Falzon, from Żabbar, was giving evidence in the trial of Emanuel Farrugia, 44, from Sliema, who is accused of attempted murder.

Mr Falzon said that he went to the Stella Levantina band club in Attard to watch a billiards game between the Kubana Bar and the Mosta Billiard Hall.

He drank some eight lagers  and even bought the accused three drinks. As he was leaving the club, at around 12.30 p.m. the accused hurled an insult at him. He shouted back, and for no apparent reason the accused attacked him with a knife.

Asked whether it was he who actually started the argument when he swore at the accused who had been urinating against a wal, Mr Falzon repeated that Mr Farrugia stabbed him for no apparent reason.
