Veteran photographer Charles Fava, renowned mostly for his sterling contribution to local sports associations, passed away last weekend aged 92.

Fava was the longest-serving member of the Għaqda Kittieba Sports (GħKS). Many consider Fava to be the first photo-reporter in our country as his career spanned 60 years.

In a statement, the GħKS described Fava as a pioneer of sports photography in Malta.

"At a time when sports journalism in Malta was still in its infancy, Fava always found a way how to assist local sports associations. He was always there to help them get their message across," the statement, signed by GħKS president Charles Camenzuli said.

Fava's qualities were recognised in 2004 when the GħKS awarded him with a special prize during its annual Sportivi Nazzjonali contest.
