Vandals over the past few days stole indigenous young trees, shrubs and water tanks from the Wied Ghollieqa Nursery and smashed wooden and stone benches, Nature Trust has reported.

Somebody even built a sort of tree house in one of the oldest carob trees, using big nails to hammer other wood into the tree and fixing tiles with cement under the tree.

Wied Ghollieqa is legally protected but is open at all.

Nature Trust said its volunteers had cleaned up the mess and removed all items stuck into the carob tree and under it. They also removed broken glass to prevent grass fires and replaced the essential missing water tanks.

The incident was reported also to the Mepa Environment Protection Department and the police.

Anyone having information on the vandalism was invited to phone on 21313150.
