Busy Valley Road in Msida was closed for traffic for most of Thursday while Infrastructure Malta workers laid 20-metre beams to widen the bridge that links Regional Road across the valley.

The bridge, built in the early 1980s will be extended to 25.5 metres to include three lanes in each direction and merging lanes to make it safer and improve traffic flow.

Seven nearby junctions are also being upgraded as part of a €7m revamp of Regional Road.
