Sundays at Valletta Waterfront will be roaring with activity over the next few months as the vaulted promenade will be hosting a series of motorsport displays and activities.

Classic cars will be on display this Sunday, when the Roaring Sundays activities kick off at 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. The classics on display will include convertibles from the late 1950s. World-famous Korean freestyle footballer Jeon Kwon will also be there, demonstrating his talents at 1 p.m.

The Roaring Sundays activities, organised by Viset and the Malta Motorsport Federation, will take place at least one Sunday a month until October.

On September 27, people will be asked to sign a petition to support the Global Road Safety worldwide campaign calling for a Decade of Action for Road Safety between 2010-2020. Last year, the campaign called on the UN to organise the first global government meeting on road safety that will be held in November in Moscow.

The petition calls on governments attending the meeting to commit to halving road traffic accidents by 2020. It is estimated that someone dies on the world's roads every six seconds with the victim being a child every three minutes.

Figures just released by the National Statistics Office show that last year the number of traffic accidents in Malta totalled 15,007. There were 15 traffic fatalities in 2008, an increase of one case over the previous year.

EU figures showed that, in 2007, Malta had the lowest number of fatal accidents: 34 per million inhabitants compared to the EU average of 86 deaths.

Sunday's classic sports car display will be followed by a Jaguar display on April 26 and quad bikes will be on show on May 3.
