Valletta 3 Mosta 1

Valletta defeated Mosta 3-1 this evening with all four goals coming in the first half.

Michael Mifsud opened the score card on the 14th minute and was followed by Ricardo Filho 10 minutes later. Steve Borg made it three for the City on the 39th minute with Obinna Obiefule slotting in Mosta's only goal just before the break.

Denni once again shone brightly, and his first telling contribution was to collect a pass from Roderick Briffa in the centre circle but Justin Haber, the Mosta goalkeeper rushed out to save with his feet in the seventh minute.

His attacking partner Mifsud who alongwith the Brazilian striker, Shawn Bajada, Briffa and William Barbos  graced the pitch with numerous magical moments, converted low to Haber's left in the 13th minute. The nippy striker collected a pass from Bajada and sharply spinned away from Ferdinando Apap and Luke Dimech to stroll into the penalty area and beat the goalkeeper at his near post with a low shot.

Five minutes later, Valletta were awarded a free-kick in a dangerous position just outside the penalty box and Barbosa produced a perfectly-flighted shot that finished just off the far post.

But Mosta's afternoon took another turn for the worse in the 26th minute when Haber with a rare handling error, failed to hold a long-range corner from Dyson Falzon as a smart header across the goal from Steve Borg found Ricardo unmarked and he made no mistake with a close-range header to make it 2-0.

Valletta all but sealed the issue in the 39th minute when Mifsud accelerated on the right flank before laying the ball to Borg who beat Haber from routine distance.

Mosta's Obiefule hit the back of the net, heading home from Micallef's fine cross just before the interval to briefly revive his team's hopes, but all was to no avail.

Steve Borg was voted BoV player of the match.
