A 25-year-old man from Valletta has pleaded not guilty to stealing €50,000 from a residence in Birkirkara on October 17.

Bjorn Grima, 25, was also charged with stealing jewellery and other items from the same residence. He pleaded not guilty to financing a gang of two or more people with the intention to commit crimes and relapsing.

Prosecuting, Inspectors Joseph Mercieca and Kevin Farrugia told the court that when victim Maria Lourdes Muscat returned home from the 6.30 p.m. Mass, she realised that her house had been broken into.

CCTV cameras nearby showed a van that had been hired by the accused approaching the residence.

More than one person could be seen coming out of the van and approaching the door but the faces were not identifiable.

The case continues.
