Valletta went down 2-0 to Italian Serie B team Ancona in a friendly match yesterday.

Colacone opened the scoring 15 minutes into yesterday's game, played at the Stadio del Conero. Ancona hit their second goal in stoppage time when Eusepi converted a penalty after Doding Priso was deemed to have floored Piergallini in the box.

The win earned Ancona the Trofeo dell'Adriatico. Apart from home team Ancona and Valletta, an Albanian side had been invited to take part in what was supposed to be a traingular tournament but they pulled out at the last minute.

All 19 players in Paul Zammit's squad played a part in yesterday's match, including new Brazilian signing Paulo Massaro and Argentine striker Sebastian Monesterolo who has rejoined the Citizens after a short stint with Israeli club Hapoel Bnei Lod. Left-back Steve Bezzina didn't make the trip to Italy on Saturday as he was down with flu.

Valletta's first competitive assignment for 2009 is on Wednesday evening when they take on Premier League leaders Hibernians at the National Stadium.

Zammit started with the following formation yesterday: A. Hogg, J. Grioli, J. Mifsud, L. Dimech, K. Scicluna, I. Zammit, D. Camilleri, J. Pace, G. Agius, D. Falzon, P. Massaro.
