Thousands of Valletta FC fans celebrated their 23rd championship by 'burying' their rivals in a traditional and bizarre ceremony last night.

Coffins draped in the colours of rivals like Floriana and Hibernians were lifted throughout the city before they were 'buried' in front of the law courts.

Football chants, mostly laced with colourful language to taunt their rivals, were played along Republic Street to the joy of the fans wearing the club's white shirt.

Fans dressed up as priests and then held candles before well-known actor and staunch fan Hector Bruno addressed the crowd.

Photographer Chris Sant Fournier captured the mood through these photos.
